Haplogroup E1b1b

FamilyTreeDNA describes the origin of this group as "This haplogroup is believed to have evolved in the Middle East. It expanded into the Mediterranean during the Pleistocene Neolithic expansion. It is currently distributed around the Mediterranean, southern Europe, and in North and East Africa."

Although the two sets of results (#7902 and #11294) appear to be similar, they are quite different and represent completely different family lines within recorded history. They have a genetic distance of 8 as calculated by FamilyTreeDNA. This is a huge difference. The fact that they share the same E1b1b Haplogroup indicates that they may have come from the same cultural group, but are not directly related (do not share a common male ancestor).

There is some family history that #7902 could have had an ancestor who was adopted, or otherwise assumed the name Ivey/Ivie/Ivy. It is possible to speculate that some Ivey/Ivys in North and South Carolina who maintained that they were "Portugee" (or Portugeuse) could have been of this line. Most of us have always assumed that they were trying to assert that they were not of recent African origin. Perhaps, they knew more than we. Until we get more test participants and more histories, the mystery will linger.
